I got so used to curating small bathroom decor in our old townhouse and vacation rental, that it was quite a change for me to get to decorate this large master. It was definitely a welcome change to have all of the space in the world to incorporate everything from a spa-like soaking tub to the most luxurious walk in bathroom shower ideas. My favorite part of the entire design process was picking out the tile of the room. We needed to stay very simple with the tile pattern and color so as not to overwhelm the limited space in the previous small bathroom designs with shower that I have created, In this room I was able to go wild and choose just about anything that I wanted (within reason). I could not be more happy with the faux wood tile that we chose to incorporate throughout the entire room.
Whomever said that small bathroom decor does not have a place within larger designs was certainly very wrong. You certainly do not need to be planning out bathroom designs for small spaces in order to utilize the same space saving and maximizing techniques that you live by in limited floor plans. Although our master is quite large, I wanted it to feel very open and uncluttered. There are of course a lot of elements that go into a bathroom so this can be a hard thing to achieve no matter what size room you have. We kept all of the bathroom decor ideas 2022 that we used very neutral and within the same two colors in order to achieve a minimalist look. That paired with very little decor created just the space that we were looking for.
In case you can't tell from that seashell shaped sink (say that ten times fast), we are in desperate need of some new small bathroom decor in our powder room. This is a space that our guests visit almost everyday, so it really needs to reflect the look that I am going for in the rest of the home. I am tired of cringing when my guests ask to use the restroom because I don't want them to go in there and see the outdated bathroom decor. Overall, our house is decorated in a mission style with a lot of Spanish influences (think colorful tile, arched doorways etc). I want our powder room to reflect this style and be a really fun space to accent the adjacent living room. I actually thought about throwing all of those small bathroom designs rules out the window and using a fun colorful wallpaper to make this space really stand out.
I had a fear moving into this townhouse that we would not be able to really have fun with decor because we would be too afraid of making everything feel smaller than it is. We decided to start the design process with small bathroom decor because we figured it would be a quick and easy project that we could dip our toes into the whole decorating thing. Of course I looked at all of the trending small bathroom ideas 2022, but none of them really seemed like our style. We are into a lot of color (albeit soft earthy tones) and controlled clutter to make the home feel lived in. We decided to just go for it, and try to bring all of these elements into our bathroom designs to see how it would work. I am so thrilled with how it turned out and definitely not afraid of doing the same in our other rooms now.
It always excites me when designers are not afraid to get creative with small bathroom decor and use some bold patterns or colors to bring livelyness to the space. We continue to see a lot of grey and white tones in popular bathroom decor 2022 so this room definitely falls in line with those trends. I will say that I like how there is a slight tan undertone to everything that makes it feel a little bit different than all of those other designs you see floating around these days. I would one hundred percent use these small bathroom ideas in my house -- even the bold tile along the back wall. Focal points like this are fun touches that I think you should always experiment with regardless of the size of your space.
I always love when I find a designer that is not afraid to experiment with small bathroom decor and play around with trends that most would be hesitant to employ in challenging layouts. I don't think that anybody should take bathroom ideas too seriously because they are fairly small spaces that can handle big design. Sure I would not put metallic wallpaper like this in my entire master bedroom, but for a small 150 square foot bathroom I think it works really well. I actually really like how they went bold on both the bathroom wall decor as well as the floor covering because it just adds layer after layer of style to the space. Herringbone is certainly very in, and it makes a really interesting accent to all of the contemporary metallic accents that they used.
