Lately my absolute favorite style is a mix of modern home design with a cozy beachy personality. The best part about this particular style is that it is actually not that expensive to achieve because the decor aspects are pretty minimal. From what I have seen, the three main must have home design ideas to achieve this look is ship lap, plank flooring and rustic looking exposed wood beams. The plank flooring is present in a lot of homes, but the beams and ship lap are probably harder to find. You see ship lap used a lot alongside more traditional nautical style beach house decor, but it is becoming a newer trend to use it as a backdrop against a more modern palette. Depending on who you hire, ship lap can actually be pretty inexpensive because it was meant to be an inexpensive way of creating walls. The beams are a bit pricier, but definitely doable if you cut back on other furniture and decor (worth the sacrifice in my opinion).
The house in these photos is basically my perfect level of modern home design that is definitely on the sleeker side but with a warm and welcoming nature to it as well. I can't deny it, I really do love modern house plans, but I think that they can look really cold and aloof sometimes -- like you are living in a museum rather than a home. I definitely want all of my living spaces to feel comforting and inviting no matter what style I choose to evoke in the space. In my opinion, the two items that achieve this are the stacked stone accent walls and the warmer color palette. Most modern home interior design ideas feature very cool shades as the foundation for the color story. While that is definitely an appealing look, I think that the warmth of the rosy stone walls really gives a cozy feel to the space.
While I do love modern home design and I definitely prefer to bring this style into our living spaces, I am not sure if something this bold would be too much for our now family-oriented lifestyle. After having children, I am far more aware of how many sharp corners and hard objects that are characteristic of the sleek geometric lines of the furniture and architecture most often found in modern living room ideas. This edgy style looked so fantastic in the home that we bought as newlyweds, but I really worry about my one year old bee bopping around in a room like that and hurting herself. I thought that this simple house design was actually a really nice compromise between modern decor and safety and comfort that you need when you have kids. The fireplace is very minimal and the big comfy couch provides a huge soft zone for them to play.
What do you guys think about buying this house with such a modern home design used throughout the entire space? Truthfully I was definitely never a die hard fan (or anything close to it) of ultra contemporary home interior design because I found it too industrial and harsh (I like things to have a lot of warmth and personality to it) but the price is right and the area it is located in could not be better. I don't think that this a a very moldable space in that it will always have a modern flare, but I am wondering if there are things I can do or ways I can decorate it to make it a little bit more my style. To start with the living room, I actually really like the espresso stained bead board ceiling and stacked stone fireplace. I know that the way that it is decorated in the photos is very trendy and full of the hottest living room ideas 2022, but it is not very me. How can I add more of a traditional flare to a space like this?
Usually I am not a huge fan of modern home design because I feel like it can look too contrived sometimes (just being honest here), but I really love the warmth of this space. I often find modern interior design to be a little too cold and aloof for my liking as I strive to create spaces that welcome you instantly and make you want to curl up with a good novel or have intimate chats with friends over wine. Sleek metals, glass, and cold color palettes certainly look interesting but, to me, do not really inspire either of those activities. This house design, on the other hand, is really something else because it is distinctly contemporary but the natural stone accents, lovely wood floors, and cheerful color palette definitely make you want to spend time in here.
