I thought that I was going to have to renovate in here and add one of those super modern fireplace designs that you see in the contemporary mansions in order to minimize the traditional styling of our living room. I definitely prefer modern interior design for a home, so I was a little bit discouraged when we moved here because of all of the super traditional details like the columns and stately fireplace. We got a quote for changing up the fireplace and it was just too high, so I figured that I would get creative and see what I could do to modify it. The first thing that I did was paint the entire living area bright white and polish the floors to make them super shiny. Keeping everything extremely monochromatic actually makes the traditional fireplace ideas look like pieces of art and I think that they actually complement my modern decor now.
Modern fireplace designs are admittedly not some of my favorites, but I actually really like the one in this slightly Western style home. In my opinion, fireplace decor can really make a room into something special if done well. That is not to say that, if you have an ugly fireplace your room will never look good, in that case it just kind of fades into the background. This space is a good example of how much of a positive effect a really nice fireplace can have on the overall decor and "vibe" of the space. I think that the tile and wood design anchors the entire space, and really sets the tone for the contemporary meets rustic western style that they have going on in here. These fireplace wall ideas would actually be fantastic in any modern style living room, you would just need to change up the color of the tile and wood stain depending on what you are doing in there.
I usually am not a huge fan of modern fireplace designs because they seem so bare, but I actually don't mind this one. Since we moved a few months ago, I have been trying to dabble in modern home design for our new place because it is not something that I have ever experimented with before. I came on here to get ideas for our living room and pretty much immediately started getting discouraged about our fireplace because I did not know what to do with it to help it fit into the new decor theme. Most of the modern fireplace ideas that I saw would have involved ripping the entire thing out and starting over. With this one, on the other hand, I could simply reface it and install some simple grey tile over our surround and mantle. It would instantly refresh the place, and I think look quite cool.
Moving into this house was a struggle for me because I love contemporary decor but the architecture was so traditional. I had purchased a lot of this furniture thinking that I would be using it alongside modern fireplace designs but, alas, that was not the case. We could not pass up the neighborhood that this house was in so I had to quickly figure out how I was going to translate all of our existing (and beloved) modern living room ideas into the super ornate traditional architecture of the entire house. Now that it is all pulled together, I actually really love the contrasting styles and am even happier than I would have been if it was all modern. Stacked stone fireplace designs are now one of my favorite architectural elements and I look out for them in any home decor magazine that I flip through.
Initially I was nervous about having to pick out modern fireplace designs for a couple of rooms in our home to go with the bold architectural style that we decided on. After doing some research, I realized that contemporary fireplace design ideas are actually super basic so I really had nothing to worry about. This house is the one that we decided to imitate and I actually gave these photos to our contractor as guidelines for how to build out our fireplaces. I think that the simple white box surround with a plain black gas fireplace in the center will go perfectly with the rest of our modern house design which will have a very similar minimalist aesthetic. Best of all, I doubt that something like this will cost that much money.
When we moved into our new home, one of the first projects that I wanted to tackle was trying to figure out how to create modern fireplace designs out of this awkward looking 1980s hearth. Not to bash the original architect, but I have no idea what they were thinking when they designed this place. I have not been able to find any fireplace pictures that even remotely resemble this thing so I really have nothing to go off of as far as figuring out how in the world to upgrade it to blend in with our contemporary decor. The weird glass unit on the bottom topped with the very bold black brick upper section really does not leave me with many options, especially in terms of what people usually do to update an old fireplace. I can't even come up with any fireplace mantel ideas that would accommodate the space. That is why I need your help figuring this out. What should I do??
