So many kitchen color schemes these days revolve around crisp white palettes, but this client asked us to create a look that was a little bit different than what you usually see in new homes today. They wanted cabinetry that highlighted the beauty of natural wood and to use a subtle tan paint palette that matched the rest of the decor in the main living areas. With these two instructions in mind, we started with beautiful white washed cabinets as the base of our design and then incorporated subtle kitchen colour ideas that brought out the lovely tones in the wood. For the wall paint, I selected this mid-tone taupe that blended well with the scheme in the adjoining living room, and accented it with an eclectic stone and metallic tile backsplash throughout the kitchen. This, in combination with the rest of the pieces we selected, created a fantastic minimalist look that does not overpower you when you walk into the room. I think that tones like this will be extremely popular for kitchen colors 2022 because of their high versatility.
I have always thought that painting kitchen cabinets is a great way to absolutely transform a space without spending a ton of money. Rather than gutting a space and replacing it with all new cabinets (especially if you have high quality custom cabinets fit specifically to your kitchen), refinishing the units is a fantastic cost effective options. Plus, if you are not committing to entirely new pieces, you can have fun with the kitchen cabinet colors and do something a little bit eclectic or out of the box like this awesome turquoise shade. If I had seen this color on a paint swatch, I never would have thought to use it in the kitchen, especially on the cabinets. However, after seeing the completed room, I love how fun and bold the choice was. Paired with black and grey countertops, dark wood floors, and simple white walls, the whole space works very well together despite the vibrant shade. After seeing this new design, I anticipate that trendy kitchen colors 2022 will likely include some bolder hues like this.
We first got the bright idea to switch up our kitchen paint colors after going to a local parade of homes this past spring. So many of the houses that I gravitated towards featured bright white kitchen with creamy cabinetry and nice dark wood floors. We already had the floors and I really liked the style of our cabinets, but the dark espresso shade made our kitchen seem like a cave and, in my opinion, really dated it. I started looking around for painting kitchen cabinets ideas to quickly update the space without spending a ton of money. I learned that Benjamin Moore Simply White is not only one of the top kitchen colors 2022, but one that most of the designers recommend as an easy "go with anything" shade for the entire house. This is our design after we painted, and I just love how the space turned out!
When people come into our shop, one of their most frequently asked questions is how to decide on the best kitchen paint colors with white cabinets. Some designers will tell you to have fun with color since simple white cabinets like these are a very basic and neutral backdrop. Others will say to keep it simple and monochromatic in order to create a lovely sleek and contemporary space. Of course the decision is up to the client, but my preference is generally the later of the two. I tend to prefer it when the kitchen cabinet paint colors are the focal point in the kitchen and have the most design impact. In my opinion, everything else should play a supporting role and enhance, rather than distract from, the beauty of those functional (and pricey) units. I love a nice taupe shade like this or even a cool grey or tan against the white cupboards. There are a ton of population kitchen colors 2022 that look perfect against a crisp white cabinet design like this.
The best kitchen paint colors are those that highlight the beauty of your cabinetry, countertops and other decorative elements, while being subtle enough so as not to overpower any neighboring living areas. When in doubt, I always tell my clients to use a neutral tone because these rooms have a lot going on due to all of the elements required for functionality. It is often best to let the kitchen wall colors take the backseat and let other decorative items like a really cool backsplash or a decorative detailing on a center island take center stage of the design. We utilized this technique is one of our most recent projects shown here. Between the granite of the countertops, the mosaic backsplash, and the stone floors, there was already quite a bit of color and pattern going on in the space. Rather than trying to complete with those items, we decided on this soft tan shade that is found in each of those items but that do not contrast against them. It make not be one of the most trendy kitchen colors 2022, but I think that it worked very well in this space.
I love it when clients are ready to think outside of the box with our designs and experiment with new trends, unexpected styles, and bold color palettes. This home was one of my favorite projects we have ever done because of the awesome black and red kitchen colors we chose. The rest of the home is decorated in a unique art decor meets contemporary loft kind of design. We were so inspired by the huge picture windows and beautiful detailing used throughout the trim work, and knew that we want to do something very drastic in the space. The starting point for this design was actually looking into kitchen paint ideas and stumbling upon an old issue of architectural digest featuring a kitchen with deep ebony cabinets. With the lofty ceilings and bright neutral lighting in this space, we thought it would be a great spot to experiment with a very dark color like this. A bright pop of red seemed like the natural pairing and blended seamlessly with the rest of their decor. I certainly hope that these shades turn up in the most popular kitchen colors 2022 because, after doing this design, I certainly don't think you could go wrong.
