Now this is a backyard swimming pool design that I can get behind (and one that I hope to have in my own home one day). Historically I have been of the opinion that inground pool designs can have a detrimental effect on the overall look of your property because it distracts from carefully curated gardens and other natural elements. I like simplicity in my designs (despite my affinity for this pool), and water features like this certainly do not often embody that character. These photos were posted to highlight some of the more popular pool landscaping ideas 2022, but I think that they also offer a new concept of what timeless elegance can look like when paired with pure unadulterated fun.
Can you imagine having a backyard swimming pool like this in your home -- I certainly wish that I could! My friends and family could tell you that I am a little bit of a swimming pool design junky (which is ironic since I live in an apartment building), and have been planning out my dream backyard entertaining area for years now. Someday when my job does not require me to live downtown near the hospital, I will have a house out in the suburbs that will have enough property to handle the pool (and cabana) of my dreams! This particular design in the photos that I posted is probably the closet I have found to exactly what I envision building for myself. I have heard a lot of people say that an underground pool like this can be an absolute bear with all of the maintenance (and electricity costs), but it would be sooo worth it to me.
People often ask me what I think makes a "great" backyard swimming pool, and that answer is oftentimes more challenging than you realize. It is so easy to look at the scores of beautiful pool pictures and think that every design is the same, without much variation. As a landscape designer that specializes in pools, I am here to tell you that planning out one of these backyard focal points can be anything but easy. You can assume that pretty much any of your favorite pool designs 2022 that you may see on here had hours and hours of planning dedicated to conceptualizing how the final product would look. I think that a "great" design is the result of carefully evaluating the property and terrain, then deciding on where a water feature would most naturally align.
I would really love to know how much a backyard swimming pool of this caliber costs to design and install. We have contemplated adding something like this to our lake house for years now, but the potential price has intimidated me too much to actually contact a builder (I am worried about having to pay for an estimate). Does anybody on here with pool installation experience have an idea of what inground swimming pool designs like this may cost? I would definitly like a main pool large enough for several people to play around in floats, as well as an adjoining hot tub. It doesn't have to be as extremely elaborate as some of the backyard pool ideas 2022 on here, just a basic design for now. Many thanks from Tennessee!
Even though this backyard swimming pool is definitely high end, I love how they incorporated fun elements for their kids to make the space as functional as it is decorative. I know that things change a lot after having kids, and oftentimes you need to incorporate new backyard pool ideas that address the playtime and safety needs of little ones. There is nothing I dislike more than marring a beautiful pool design with a fence surrounding the entire thing but, sometimes, it is just essential for safety. The same goes for this water slide and jungle gym that the homeowners added to this design. The balance of high end from the swimming pool lights and kid-friendly from the toys definitely must make both parties thrilled to spend time out there.
I have to admit that our backyard swimming pool is very boring -- I mean there is virtually no landscaping or decor of any sort beyond our freshly power washed flagstone pool deck. I have made it my mission this year to upgrade our backyard pool designs and transform it into a luxury oasis that my friends and family will love to spend time in (and I will love to show off). Unfortunately though, I am really at a loss for where to start. I am certainly no designer and I really don't want to hire somebody to plan out the whole thing for me. For that reason, I have been looking around on here to see what other people do and I have been reading tons of comments on what other homeowners have done to make their outdoor spaces look professionally done. If anybody reading this has thoughts on what makes the best backyard pools, please feel free to reach out and weigh in!
